Using @Mentions
Tag teammates in comments using @mentions to notify them instantly, bring them into conversations, and streamline collaboration on audio projects.
Learn how to notify specific teammates and bring them into conversations using @mentions.
What Are @Mentions?
@Mentions let you tag specific collaborators in comments to:
- Get someone’s attention on important feedback
- Assign tasks or action items
- Loop someone into a conversation
- Ask questions to specific team members
When you @mention someone, they receive an email notification and an in-app notification.

Multiple Mentions in One Comment
You can @mention multiple people in a single comment:
@john @sarah Can you both review the mix by Friday?
Great work team! Special thanks to @mike for the drums
and @alex for the guitar tracking.
Each mentioned person receives a separate notification.
Mentions in Different Contexts
Text Comments
Standard @mentions work in all text fields:
- Track comments
- Playlist comments
- Comment replies
- Audio comment descriptions
Audio Comments
Two ways to mention in audio comments:
-
In the audio description text:
[Audio recording: detailed mixing notes] @sarah See audio comment above for full feedback -
Spoken in the audio (not automatically detected):
- Say “At John’s request…” in audio
- Manually @mention in text field below
- Both audio and text appear together
Best practice: Combine audio feedback with text @mentions for clarity.
Comment Replies
@Mention works in reply threads:
Original comment: "The vocal needs EQ"
Reply: @sarah I adjusted the EQ, can you check again?
The mentioned person receives notification of the reply, even if they didn’t create the original comment.
Notifications

@Mention Etiquette
When to Use @Mentions
Good use cases:
- ✅ Assigning specific tasks
- ✅ Asking direct questions
- ✅ Bringing someone into a discussion
- ✅ Requesting approval or sign-off
- ✅ Urgent attention needed
Avoid overusing:
- ❌ Mentioning entire team (use drive-wide announcements instead)
- ❌ Mentioning on every comment (notification fatigue)
- ❌ Mentioning for general info (use description/pinned comments)
- ❌ Multiple mentions when one person can coordinate
Writing Effective @Mentions
Be specific:
❌ @john thoughts?
✅ @john Can you check if the vocal timing at 1:45 is in sync?
Include context:
❌ @sarah fix this
✅ @sarah The bass at 2:30 is clipping. Can you reduce by 3dB?
Set expectations:
❌ @mike FYI
✅ @mike Heads up - client wants changes by Friday. Let's discuss.
Acknowledge work:
✅ Great vocal performance @alex! Love the emotion at 3:15.
Response Expectations
As the mentioned person:
- Acknowledge within 24 hours (even if just “working on it”)
- Reply when task is complete
- Ask clarifying questions if needed
- Use resolve feature when issue is addressed
As the mentioner:
- Allow reasonable response time (24-48 hours)
- Send reminder @mention if no response after 3 days
- Escalate to direct message for urgent items
Troubleshooting
Autocomplete not appearing
Cause: Focus lost or browser issue
Solutions:
-
Click in comment field and type
@again -
Ensure cursor is directly after
@symbol - Refresh the page
- Try different browser
- Disable browser extensions temporarily
Person not appearing in autocomplete
Cause: They don’t have access to the track
Solutions:
- Verify they’re a collaborator on the drive
- Check if track is in shared folder they can access
- Invite them to the drive/folder first
- Use public link + guest comments if they’re external
@Mention not sending notification
Cause: User has notifications disabled or typo in mention
Solutions:
- Verify username spelling (case-sensitive)
- Check if mention highlighted in blue (valid mention)
- Ask recipient to check spam folder
- Confirm they have notifications enabled
- Try @mentioning in a new comment
Cannot @mention admin/owner
Cause: Admins may have special notification settings
Solutions:
- Verify they’re active collaborators
- Check if they muted the thread
- Use direct message instead
- Contact them via email outside Feedtracks
Privacy and Security
Who Can See @Mentions?
@Mentions are visible to:
- Everyone with access to the track/playlist
- All members of the shared drive
- Public link recipients (if guest comments enabled)
@Mentions do NOT:
- Appear in search engines
- Get indexed publicly
- Share outside the drive’s members
Removing @Mentions
Cannot edit mentions after posting, but you can:
- Delete the comment entirely
- Add a new reply correcting/clarifying
- Resolve the comment thread
Note: Deleted comments stop sending future notifications, but the initial notification email was already sent.
@Mention Spam Prevention
Feedtracks prevents @mention abuse:
- Rate limit: Max 20 mentions per hour
- Duplicate detection: Same user in same thread within 5 minutes = one notification
- Bulk mention cap: Max 10 users per single comment
