Learn how to use voice comments to give faster, more detailed feedback on tracks.

Why Use Audio Comments?

Audio comments let you express complex production notes in your own voice, capturing tone, emotion, and nuance that text simply can’t convey. Instead of typing paragraphs about EQ adjustments or vocal delivery, just speak naturally and get your feedback across 3x faster.

Perfect for:

  • Detailed mixing notes - Describe subtle frequency issues or spatial placement
  • Creative direction - Share emotional intent and artistic vision
  • Quick feedback sessions - Review multiple tracks rapidly without typing fatigue
  • Remote collaboration - Maintain personal connection with distributed teams

Recording Your First Audio Comment

Step 1: Navigate to the Track

  1. Open the shared drive or folder containing the track
  2. Click on the track to open the track detail view
  3. The waveform player appears at the top

While recording:

  • You’ll see a timer showing elapsed time (up to 2 minutes)
  • A waveform visualization shows your voice levels
  • Speak clearly and at normal volume
  • Stay within 2-3 feet of your microphone

Tips for clear audio:

  • Find a quiet space - minimize background noise
  • Use headphones to avoid audio feedback
  • Speak naturally - no need to shout or whisper
  • Pause briefly between thoughts for easier listening

Step 4: Review and Post

  1. Click Stop when finished (or recording auto-stops at 2 minutes)
  2. Listen to your recording using the built-in player
  3. If satisfied, click Post Comment
  4. If not, click Re-record to try again

Your audio comment appears as a playable card at the timestamp where you created it.

Advanced Audio Comment Features

Combining Text and Audio

You can add both text and audio to the same comment:

  1. Record your audio first
  2. Add text notes in the text field above
  3. Post the combined comment

When to use both:

  • Audio for the main feedback
  • Text for specific timestamps, track names, or links
  • Text for structured checklists or action items

Example:

  • Audio: “The vocal needs more presence in the chorus”
  • Text: “Try boosting 4-6kHz, compress at 4:1 ratio”

Replying with Audio

Audio replies work the same as regular replies:

  1. Click Reply on any comment
  2. Click the microphone icon in the reply box
  3. Record your response
  4. Post the reply

Great for back-and-forth creative discussions without typing essays.

Editing Audio Comments

Audio recordings cannot be edited after posting. However, you can:

  • Delete and re-record if needed
  • Add a text reply with corrections
  • Edit any text that accompanies the audio

This prevents confusion about what was originally said.

  2. Verify browser has microphone permission:
    • Chrome: Settings → Privacy → Site Settings → Microphone
    • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Permissions
    • Safari: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Microphone
  3. Try refreshing the page

Solutions:

  1. Check system microphone volume (not muted)
  2. Position microphone 2-3 feet from your mouth
  3. Close background apps making noise
  4. Use headphones to eliminate echo
  5. Test in System Settings → Sound → Input

“Recording failed to save”

  3. Try again in a few seconds
  4. Clear browser cache and reload

Audio playback issues

Cause: Browser compatibility or connection problems

Solutions:

  1. Refresh the page
  2. Try a different browser
  3. Check if audio works elsewhere (YouTube, etc.)
  4. Disable browser extensions temporarily

Best Practices

For Feedback Givers

Structure your comments:

  1. State the timestamp or section clearly
  2. Describe what you’re hearing
  3. Suggest specific changes
  4. Keep each comment focused on one issue

Example: “At 1:23 in the chorus, the bass is overpowering the vocal. Try reducing the bass level by 2-3dB or sidechain it to the kick.”

Use audio when:

  • Describing tonal qualities or spatial issues
  • Explaining complex musical concepts
  • Giving detailed production notes
  • Reviewing multiple elements at once

Use text when:

  • Sharing timestamps, links, or technical specs
  • Creating checklists or action items
  • Providing brief yes/no feedback

For Track Owners

Responding to audio feedback:

  • Listen to full comment before replying
  • Take notes on key points
  • Ask clarifying questions via text or audio
  • Mark as resolved when changes are complete

Organizing audio comments:

  • Use resolve feature to track progress
  • @mention specific team members for actions
  • Group related audio comments by section
  • Export transcript for session notes (Pro/Studio plans)

Privacy and Security

  • Audio comments are only visible to collaborators with access to the track
  • Shared drives inherit permission settings
  • Public links can expose audio comments to anyone with the link
  • Audio is stored encrypted in transit and at rest
  • Delete audio by deleting the comment (permanent)
