Prorated Billing
Feedtracks uses prorated billing to ensure you only pay for what you use.
How Prorated Billing Works
When you upgrade mid-billing cycle:
- Feedtracks calculates remaining days in your current billing period
- You’re charged the difference between your current plan and new plan for those days
- Next billing cycle, you pay the full price of the new plan
Example Calculation
Scenario:
- You’re on the Fan plan ($10/month)
- You upgrade to Pro ($50/month) on day 15 of 30
- 15 days remain in your billing period
Calculation:
Days remaining: 15 of 30 (50%)
Fan plan daily rate: $10 / 30 = $0.33/day
Pro plan daily rate: $50 / 30 = $1.67/day
Difference: $1.67 - $0.33 = $1.34/day
Prorated charge: $1.34 × 15 days = $20.10
You pay $20.10 immediately, then $50/month on your next billing date.
No Double Charging
You are never charged twice for the same period:
- Your Fan plan is credited for the remaining days
- You only pay the difference for the upgrade
- Your next full billing is at the new rate
Downgrading Your Plan
You can also downgrade if your needs decrease.
How to Downgrade
- Go to Settings → Billing
- Click Change Plan
- Select a lower tier
- Confirm the downgrade
Important Downgrade Considerations
Before downgrading, ensure:
- ❌ Your current storage usage fits within the new plan’s limit
- ❌ Your number of shared drives fits within the new plan’s limit
- ❌ You’re not exceeding any other plan limits
If You Exceed New Plan Limits
If your current usage exceeds the new plan’s limits:
- Storage: You must delete items or move them to trash and empty trash
- Shared Drives: You must delete or leave shared drives to meet the limit
Feedtracks will prevent the downgrade if you exceed limits and show you what needs to be reduced.
Downgrade Timing
When you downgrade:
- The downgrade takes effect at the end of your current billing period
- You continue to have your current plan’s features until then
- No refunds are issued for the remainder of the current period
- The lower price applies starting next billing cycle
Storage Usage Monitoring
Checking Your Storage
To see how much storage you’re using:
- Go to Settings → Storage
-
View your usage breakdown:
- Total storage used
- Storage remaining
- Percentage used
- Breakdown by content type (tracks, versions, artwork, etc.)
Storage Breakdown
Storage is used by:
- Audio files (tracks and all their versions)
- Waveform data (small)
- Artwork images (playlists and tracks)
- Blockchain certification data (very small)
Note: Items in trash still count toward your storage quota until permanently deleted.
Low Storage Warnings
When you approach your storage limit:
- 90% full: You’ll see a warning banner
- 100% full: You cannot upload new files until you free space
To free storage:
- Delete unnecessary tracks or versions
- Empty trash to permanently remove items
- Upgrade to a higher plan
Shared Drive Limits
Fan Plan: 2 Shared Drives
With 2 shared drives, you can:
- Collaborate with one group on Drive 1
- Work with another client on Drive 2
- Keep personal work in your personal drive
Pro Plan: 10 Shared Drives
With 10 shared drives, you can:
- Manage multiple client projects simultaneously
- Separate different types of work (music production, podcasts, sound design)
- Create dedicated drives for each major project or team
Studio Plan: Unlimited Shared Drives
Unlimited shared drives means:
- Create a drive for every project, no matter how many
- Organize by client, by project, by date, or any system you prefer
- No need to delete old drives to make room for new ones
What Counts as a Shared Drive?
A shared drive counts against your limit if:
- ✅ You created it
- ✅ You are the owner/admin
A shared drive does NOT count if:
- ❌ Someone else created it and invited you
- ❌ You’re a member but not the owner
Blockchain Certification Limits
Each plan has monthly limits on blockchain certifications:
-
Fan: Limited certifications per month (stored in
certification_count_current_month) - Pro: Higher monthly limit
- Studio: Highest monthly limit
The limit resets at the start of each calendar month. If you need more certifications:
- Wait until next month for the limit to reset
- Upgrade to a higher tier for increased limits
See Blockchain Certification for details.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I upgrade in the middle of the month?
Yes. You can upgrade at any time. You’ll be charged a prorated amount for the remainder of the month, and the new price applies starting next billing cycle.
Is my storage available immediately?
Yes. As soon as your payment is processed, your new storage quota is active, and you can start uploading.
What if I exceed my storage after downgrading?
You must reduce your storage usage before the downgrade takes effect. Delete items and empty trash to fit within the new plan’s limits.
Do deleted items still count toward storage?
Yes, for 30 days. Items in trash count toward your quota until they’re permanently deleted. Empty trash to free storage immediately.
Can I change plans multiple times?
Yes. You can upgrade or downgrade as many times as needed. Each change applies prorated billing.
What happens to my shared drives if I downgrade?
If you exceed the new plan’s shared drive limit, you must delete or leave shared drives until you’re within the limit. The downgrade will not proceed until you comply.
Do all versions of a track count toward storage?
Yes. Each version is a separate file. If you have 3 versions of a 50MB track, you’re using 150MB of storage.
Can I get a refund if I downgrade?
No. Downgrades take effect at the end of the current billing period. You keep access to your current plan until then, so no refund is issued.
Best Practices
1. Monitor Your Storage Regularly
Check your storage usage weekly or monthly:
- Anticipate when you’ll need more space
- Delete unnecessary versions or old projects
- Upgrade before you hit the limit
2. Clean Up Before Downgrading
If you plan to downgrade:
- Review your storage and shared drives well in advance
- Delete unnecessary items
- Empty trash
- Ensure you’re well under the new limit
3. Choose the Right Plan from the Start
Consider your long-term needs:
- Fan: Start here if you’re exploring or have small needs
- Pro: Choose this if you’re a working professional
- Studio: Go straight here if you have large teams or extensive libraries
Upgrading is easy, but starting with the right plan saves you time.
4. Take Advantage of Prorated Billing
Don’t hesitate to upgrade mid-month:
- You only pay for what you use
- Storage is available immediately
- No penalty for upgrading early
5. Set Reminders for Billing
Add your billing date to your calendar:
- Ensures you’re aware of upcoming charges
- Gives you time to review usage and plan changes
- Helps you update payment methods if needed
